Understanding your VA disability rating isn’t just about learning what this month’s check might be; it is a powerful tool to learn the lifetime value of the benefits you’ve earned through your service. The VA Disability Rating Calculator from UVBA can help estimate your disability rating and monthly compensation by using the VA’s own rating calculation formula. With simple information like your age, current ratings, and dependents, you can see how much your benefits are worth over a lifetime, and it helps to illustrate how much more you could receive with an increased rating. This calculator utilizes the most recent VA Payout Table to determine the combined ratings of multiple disabilities and accounts for outside factors such as marital status, spouse disabilities, and both child or adult dependents.
The VA uses a unique formula, sometimes referred to as VA Math, to determine your combined disability rating and financial compensation rates. That is where UVBA’s Disability Calculator comes in. This tool can calculate the math for you, show your monthly amount, and help you see the lifetime value of your benefits. Here’s how it works:
Conditions are ranked from highest to lowest based on disability percentage. The VA looks at how each new condition adds to the overall disability rating, as they do not stack collectively.
Instead of adding percentages together, the VA uses a table to calculate the combined VA disability rating. For example, 60% and 30% disabilities equate to 72%, not 90%.
Combined VA disability ratings ending in a 5 or higher will round up to the next whole 10% increment, and round down for a 4 or lower. For example, the 72% rating above becomes 70%.
The VA Disability Rating Calculator will add extra compensation for eligible dependents, like a spouse, children, or adult dependents who rely on you.
The VA disability rating calculator helps determine your disability percentage based on medical evidence and documentation supporting injuries, illnesses, or disabilities. Once claims are verified, the VA assigns a disability rating. Many applicants have more than one disabling condition, so the VA lists all conditions from most severe to least severe and calculates the final disability percentage using compensation tables. Ratings are always in multiples of 10, up to a 100% disability rating for a single injury or combined conditions. The VA will round up or down to full 10% increments based on the final combined rating being greater than or less than 5.
United Veterans Benefit Agency works with clients to ensure disability percentages are accurately calculated and compensated. Monthly rates may also vary based on the presence of dependents in the home, including children or adult parents relying on disabled Veterans for care.
