When people hear about a regional annual meeting, they may picture presentations, handshakes, and a room full of community leaders.
But meetings like the Sustainable Ozarks Partnership Annual Meeting are about something much bigger.
They are about making sure Fort Leonard Wood, the people who serve there, and the surrounding communities have a strong voice as the Army and the region continue to change.
That is why members of the United Veteran Benefits Agency ownership and leadership team attended the 2026 Sustainable Ozarks Partnership Annual Meeting.
We were there to listen, learn, and remain connected to the conversations shaping the future of the military community we call home.
The Sustainable Ozarks Partnership works to strengthen Fort Leonard Wood and the four-county region surrounding the installation.
The organization was established in 2012 to formalize regional support for Fort Leonard Wood. It brings together representatives from businesses, local and regional governments, state agencies, civic organizations, and communities across Laclede, Phelps, Pulaski, and Texas counties.
The goal is to give the region one coordinated voice on issues affecting the long-term readiness and sustainability of Fort Leonard Wood.
That work reaches beyond the gates of the installation.

These issues affect active-duty Service Members, but their impact does not end when someone leaves the military. They also influence Veterans, retirees, military families, local employers, and the communities where people build their lives after service.
This year’s meeting centered on the Fort Leonard Wood region’s legacy of supporting the installation’s mission while improving quality of life throughout the area.
Attendees heard from military, federal, state, and regional leaders about the work already being done and the work that must continue as the Army changes.
Military leaders also discussed how Fort Leonard Wood’s unique capabilities contribute to Army strategic readiness and national defense.
The Sustainable Ozarks Partnership shared accomplishments from the previous year and outlined objectives for the year ahead.
The message was clear: Fort Leonard Wood and its surrounding communities are connected. Changes affecting one can create effects throughout the entire region.
Support for a military installation is not limited to training facilities or equipment.
It also includes the systems and opportunities available to the people connected to that installation.
A strong military community needs access to healthcare, reliable transportation, quality schools, employment opportunities, stable infrastructure, and organizations willing to advocate for long-term regional growth.
These resources matter while someone is serving.
They can matter just as much during the transition into civilian life.
A Veteran may be looking for a new career. A military spouse may need employment that can continue through periods of transition. A retiree may need dependable healthcare nearby. A family may be deciding whether the Fort Leonard Wood region is a place where they can build a permanent home.
Regional partnerships help bring the right people into the same conversation so those needs are not addressed in isolation.
United Veteran Benefits Agency is located in St. Robert, just outside Fort Leonard Wood.
Our connection to this community is not simply based on geography. Our team includes Veterans, military spouses, and people whose lives have been shaped by military service.
That is why showing up matters to us.
We attended the annual meeting to better understand the priorities affecting Fort Leonard Wood, hear directly from military and community leaders, and stay connected to the people working to strengthen this region.
Helping Veterans navigate the VA disability claim process remains central to what we do. But our commitment to the Veteran community extends beyond claims.
It includes supporting organizations that serve Veterans and their families, sharing useful community resources, and participating in conversations that influence life around one of the Army’s most important installations.
It also means recognizing that no single business or organization can meet every need.
Organizations such as The Fallen Outdoors help Veterans rebuild camaraderie through outdoor experiences. Groups such as The Kaufman Fund connect Veterans with resources addressing housing, employment, mental health, and other needs.
Regional partnerships create opportunities for organizations with different areas of expertise to listen, collaborate, and contribute where they can make the greatest difference.
The decisions shaping the Fort Leonard Wood region will continue to evolve as the Army’s needs evolve.
Remaining informed and involved helps local organizations understand those changes and respond thoughtfully.
